Spider-Woman

Jessica Drew

1979 Spider-Woman Animated Series

Spider-Woman's History

When Jessica Drew was a child, she opened a glass cage to see a spider and it jumped and bit her. The spider bite made her very sick. Her father injected her with spider-serum and Jessica recovered but gained spider-like powers when she became an adult and she became Spider-Woman. On occasion, Spider-Woman found herself working with Spider-Man.

Jessica has a somewhat dry sense of humor, and frequently makes spider-based puns about her situation or to mock her opponents. She rarely takes time to relax, as she is almost always fighting crime, saving lives, or covering news stories as a reporter and editor for Justice Magazine with her photographer, Jeff Hunt, and her 13-year-old nephew, Billy. She is consistently polite to just about every non-criminal she comes across, even if they are rather dismissive towards her.

Jessica is a kind, selfless, and brave woman who consistently places herself in harm's way in order to save others. While in her civilian identity, Jessica acts somewhat timid and passive, as she rarely challenges Jeff's rather chauvinistic attitude towards her. When in costume, however, she speaks with a notably more confident tone.
