Akura Malice's History

Everyone in the Akura family is named after a virtue. When Malice was born, the Akura family was a tiny band of humans in a vicious wilderness. They were destroyed by a rival when she was only days old, their members dispersed. She was named for the quality of ruthlessness, spite, and focused hatred that her parents hoped would guide her to avenge them. Malice grew up among exiles working with vengeance as her only goal, but she slowly realized how hollow revenge really was. To her, the only thing that mattered was the good of the family. She had a firm sense of justice, defending the weak and fighting the strong, but she learned that the world of vicious competition was unfair to those born human. From this, she developed the idea that the best way to protect the weak was to gather them under one banner and to remove all threats at the roots, as a family was safest when its rivals were dead.

She manifested the Shadow Icon as a Sage, and uses her Authority to try to read the future, as the Shadow Icon is one of the icons with the most affinity for reading fate.

Though she is famous for the creation of the Path of Seven Pages, Malice herself has no Book, instead practicing the Path of Eternal Night. She is the practitioner of a pure shadow Path with an emphasis on Forger and Ruler techniques, and she sees her madra as a perfect blend of power and utility. However, her dissatisfaction with her own Path led her to create an idealized version: her Book of Eternal Night.

Akura Malice is not known for her kindly, motherly nature, though she has had many children over the centuries, and habitually gives birth to more. However, only the children who inherit enough of her power are considered true children, with the weaker ones ignored and abandoned. She chooses her consorts from people with talents or Bloodline Abilities she values, but the father usually has no contact with the child. Even among her more valued children, she rarely interacts with them, with most of their meetings being formal audiences. Her descendants seem to see her as "divinity made flesh."

However, Akura Malice does seem to care about those close to her on some level. For example, her son Fury, her granddaughter Charity, her named heir and daughter, Mercy, and Mercy's father.

It is also acknowledged by many that Malice's role as Monarch had corrupted her, as memories of her all agree that she was a hero who would carve her family a place in a hostile world and create a safe haven for the weak instead of an arrogant tyrant who lost sight of those she'd been working for.
