Ajani Goldmane's History
Ajani Goldmane is a leonin planeswalker from Naya, Alara who was compleated by the phyrexians into becoming a sleeper agent. After being compleated, he wears a cybernetic eye in place of his blinded eye and has black wires and cables under his skin. The skin on one of his arms was burned away by
Jaya Ballard.
Sometime during the Second Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria, Ajani was captured by
Sheoldred's forces and forcibly compleated to be used as a sleeper agent. His only goal was to discover where the Golgothian Sylex was and destroy it with capturing
Karn as a possible secondary mission. While he initially resisted his sleeper agent programming, his values quickly came to align with Phyrexia's. At the battle of the Mana Rig, he revealed his compleation, killing Jaya Ballard, destroying the Sylex, and helping to capture Karn before planeswalking to New Phyrexia.
As a Phyrexian, Ajani's inherent beliefs and goals have been twisted to align with those of his new masters. Under their influence, Ajani feels like he's part of a pride once more, welcomed and accepted by a community that values him. Phyrexia has opened his eyes to the danger that "differences" can cause. Teamwork, he now realizes, is about aligning perspectives into a single point of view. By removing differences, everyone can be together as part of a single Phyrexian pride. In Phyrexia, everyone is together and equal—in fact, he never realized before becoming part of Phyrexia how much his values aligned with theirs, and he is now eager to help his friends by bringing them into the fold.
