Wu Santong's History

The farmer among the four major disciples of Reverend Yideng's "Fishing, Forestry, Farming and Reading" was originally an upright and honest person. He appears as a background character in "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" and becomes a side character in "The Return of the Condor Heroes."

When they were young, Wu Santong and his wife Wu Sanniang adopted a righteous daughter named He Yuanjun, and the two loved her in every possible way. When He Yuanjun was seventeen or eighteen years old, Wu Santong actually fell in love with her. During this time, He Yuanjun fell in love with a man named Lu Zhanyuan, and the two of them had a private life.

While Wu Santong confronted the couple, Li Mochou also appeared, as she had fell in love with Lu Zhanyuan. The two fought over the couple until they were stopped by Yideng. The two agreed not to trouble the new couple for the next ten years. Wu Santong would proceed to be locked up by his wife, and would have two sons.

Ten years later, Wu Sanniang, believing that Wu Santong would have already forgotten about He Yuanjun, released him. The crazed Wu Santong ran away searching for He Yuanjun immediately, and stalked her family from the shadows. When a heartbroken Li Mochou appeared to murder the family, Wu Santong jumped out in an effort to save them, but was horribly outmatched and almost killed with a poisonous needle. At this time, Wu Sanniang appeared, sucking out the poison out and sending Wu Santong to find a cure for the poison, though she knew it didn't exist. She died soon after, and Wu Santong went missing for many years.

During this time, Wu Santong's twin sons became students of Guo Jing and developed crushes on his daughter Guo Fu. Both their martial art skill and emotional strength were pitiful compared to what one would typically expect, and Yang Guo surpassed them both very early on.

Wu Santong was reunited with his sons at a martial arts festival, when the two were already young adults. Wu Santong participated in a match against the disciples of the Golden Wheel Imperial Advisor, and was sorely outmatched. At this time, Yang Guo jumped in and defeated both disciples, saving the day. Wu Santong would stay at Xiangyang alongside Guo Jing to defend against the Mongolian armies.

The Wu twins' incompetence continued, meeting a climax when they decided to fight to the death for the hand of Guo Fu. Wu Santong begged a passing Yang Guo to help, and he proceeded to defeat both twins, lying to them that he was already engaged to Guo Fu and the two should let go of their useless dreams. At this time, Li Mochou arrived, and the Wu family fought to avenge Wu Sanniang, but were once more horribly outmatched, with both twins receiving the same poisonous needles that killed their mother. Wu Santong was determined to suck out the poison, but Yang Guo stopped him and did it himself, as he was already suffering from a different poison and didn't have long to live. The two poisons miraculously countered each other, and Wu Santong was once more indebted to Yang Guo.
