Waspinator's History
Waspinator was a Predacon separatist in the employ of Galavar before his leader went rogue, changed his name to "Megatron", and launched a daring raid to steal the Golden Disk and smuggle it off Cybertron. While half of the crew liberated the disk itself from the Ministry of Science, Waspinator, Tarantulas, and Skold stole the transwarp-capable Darksyde from the Great Shipyard in Vos, sabotaged the rest of the fleet to prevent any pursuers, and escaped with the intention of following the coordinates on the disk. With Waspinator acting as the ship's helmsman, their ship came under attack from the Maximal science ship Axalon before Tarantulas activated the ship's transwrp drive and escaped through time and space to a mysterious planet.
Despite Waspinator's best efforts, the Axalon rammed the Darksyde and sent both ships crashing to the planet below, with the impact temporarily smashing Waspinator to bits. The ship's computer sensed an abundance of energon on the planet, and to protect its crew from over-exposure rebuilt them with organic alternate modes based on the local fauna. Once repaired and reformatted into his new beast mode, Waspinator joined his crewmates as Megatron laid out his plans.
A few days later, Waspinator returned from a scouting mission when an annoyed Terrorsaur sent him back out on a second patrol before he could refuel. When the Predacons captured Nyx and decided to execute the helpless Maximal after a fruitless interrogation, Waspinator took part in the proceedings before Dinobot, feeling that there could be no honour in cold-blooded torture, had a change of heart, turned on his fellow Predacons, and punched Waspinator in the face before tripping the Darksyde's security protocols and deliberately locking the Predacons inside their own starship while he and Nyx escaped. Hours later, Tarantulas finally unscrambled the ship's computers, and Megatron ordered Waspinator and Terrorsaur to search for Dinobot in the sky.
The Predacons tracked Dinobot and Nyx all the way back to the Axalon, and, hoping to take their enemies by surprise, launched a full-scale attack on the crashed starship and its occupants. In the ensuing battle, Waspinator tried and failed to hit Cheetor with his stinger-blaster before Dinobot entered the battle on the side of the Maximals, and immediately ripped Waspinator's arm off and used it to beat Waspinator over the head and take him out of the fight. Rattrap's last-minute activation of the ship's shields and autoguns forced the Predacons into a retreat, and Scorponok carried the unconscious Waspinator away.
While on another routine energon-gathering mission with Terrorsaur, Waspinator questioned why his fellow flier took a particular delight in tormenting Skold, despite her prodigious strength. Terrorsaur told him that his bullying kept Skold in her place and prevented her from attaining the position of authority she could claim if not for her low self-esteem. Later, Waspinator was taking a nap with a teddy bear when the newly activated Blackarachnia broke into the base and scuttled past him. To celebrate the arrival of their new Predacon recruit, Megatron held a celebration that Waspinator attended before he and Terrorsaur set out to search for more downed stasis pods.
While conducting routine training drills outside the Darksyde, Waspinator and Scorponok bore witness to a confrontation between Terrorsaur and Megatron when the upstart flier directly challenged his leader's authority. Moments later, however, Waspinator recognized the sound of falling bombs and ordered the rest of the Predacons to take cover as the Maximals launched a bombing run on their base. Amidst the chaos, Optimus Primal tricked Waspinator into dodging a boulder so that he could stun him with his wrist blasters. As he came to, Skold, who'd just killed Terrorsaur in retaliation for Razorbeast's death, lied to Waspinator that the Maximals had killed his friend, and a furious Waspinator swore vengeance. When Waspinator again matched up against Dinobot, the ex-Predacon easily incapacitated him with his eye lasers.
As the Beast Wars continued, Waspinator was used as a test subject for an elaborate labyrinth trap created by Tarantulas and Blackarachnia only to be abandoned. When Rhinox blundered into the trap, the two worked together to reach the exit, though Waspinator flew to freedom while leaving Rhinox stranded. During a skirmish that ended with Cheetor getting injured, Waspinator was shot down. While on another scouting mission with Scorponok, the pair fetched up against some of the planet's strange wildlife before discovering a cache of unusual red energon that boosted the aggression of any living being. Meanwhile, the newly activated Saberback disguised himself as Waspinator to lead Megatron into an ambush.
When the Maximals and Predacons joined forces to fight off the Vok, Waspinator's two degrees in astro-mechanics got him assigned to the Axalon. After getting a restraining bolt slapped onto him, Waspinator helped Rattrap on the Axalon's engines, managing to restore them to 34% thrust capacity and making the ship capable of planetary flight.
When a distress call in from the Darksyde, Rattrap and Waspinator were left behind, managing to make the Axalon flight-worthy again. Having learnt that the Vok had an aversion to transwarp technology, Rattrap rigged the transwarp drive to channel its unspace energies through the weapon systems. Assuming the Axalon's helm position, Waspinator piloted the ship to the Darksyde just in time to destroy the Vok. With their mutual enemies gone, the truce was considered over and Waspinator rejoined the Predacons, though offering a last thanks to the Maximals for letting him sample their fruit.
