The Gitrog Monster's History

The Gitrog monster is an enormous frog that lives in the depths of Lake Zhava, which is located in the highlands of Nephalia on Innistrad, near the border with Gavony. With the arrival of Emrakul, the monster became even more horrific, slowly losing any resemblance to a creature of the natural world.

As the madness in Innistrad grew, the villagers of a small village near the lake started to fear the monster which they knew from stories. They began to sacrifice sheep to the Gitrog, and later humans. In the end, most of the village was without occupants.

In addition to an enormous and powerful tongue, the Gitrog has the ability to control those who look into its eyes. This allowed it to even make one young woman kill her best friend.

During New Phyrexia's Invasion of the Multiverse, the Gitrog monster teamed up with the cathar Thalia to protect Innistrad against Elesh Norn's forces.
