Tenseiga
What is Tenseiga?
Powers of Tenseiga
Resurrection: The Tenseiga could restore the life of the recently deceased by destroying the pall-bearers who took the souls of the dead. However, it required a relatively-intact body to work and only worked once as not to grant eternal life. If done to a dismembered body part, it will restore the body part to how it was when alive, but it will die again shortly afterwards. This was shown when it was used to revived Goshinki's head to restore his fangs.Spiritual Combat: Although the Tenseiga could not harm what belonged to the Living World, its healing powers allowed it to slay the undead and spirits such Magatsuhi, the evil will of the Shikon Jewel,[10] and the Dream Butterfly.
Healing Energy Wave: This wave of pure life-infused demonic energy was used to return young Rin to life, though was ineffective a second time as such an ability could only work once. At one point, it was used to resurrect Jaken.
Purification: After young Rin's second death, Sesshōmaru showed compassion to the dead souls in the Underworld, had asked,"You all wished to be saved too, is that it?", and used the Tenseiga to purify/pacify them of the sins of their former lives.
Protective Barrier: The Tenseiga had the ability to erect a protective barrier around its master if his life was in danger and transported him across vast distances to safety.[5] After Tenseiga was reforged, Tenseiga has the ability to create a barrier to prevent anyone from wielding it. This is proven as it took Towa, Setsuna, and Moroha's strength to pull the sword out. Humans who touch the sword will not be harmed as Rin was able to hold it.
Sōryūha (蒼そう龍りゅう破は, Dragon Strike/Azure Dragon Wave, "Dragon Strike"): Sesshōmaru had first used this incredibly powerful attack against Inuyasha's Backlash Wave and was strong enough to render it useless as his demonic aura was strengthened by his fury towards Inuyasha and his deceased mother for being directly responsible for Tōga's demise. This strongest attack/ability had eventually passed onto Towa, who eventually had it evolve into her very own attack of a twin-headed, blue-white dragon.
Access to the Netherworld: The Tenseiga granted whoever wielded it access into the Netherworld through the Border of the Afterlife. Proof of this was when Gozu and Mezu, the guardians of the Netherworld, allowed Sesshōmaru to enter after he drew the Tenseiga.[4] Since Towa got the Tenseiga and they came to the Lake of the Staff of Two Heads, she summon the bridge to reach the gate and since Inuyasha tells Gozu and Mezu about it, the Tenseiga granted it whoever wielded it access back to living world.[13]
Former Attacks & Techniques
Sōryūha (蒼そう龍りゅう破は, Dragon Strike/Azure Dragon Wave, "Dragon Strike"): At one point, it was somehow able to harness its reluctant wielder's signature attack to defeat Sō'unga in conjunction with Backlash Wave, despite the fact that it is blade that cannot cut.
Meidō Zangetsuha (冥めい道どう残ざん月げつ破は, "Dark Path of the Dawn's Moon Wave"): This technique created a path that sent anyone who was hit with it directly to the Netherworld. The technique originally belonged to the Tessaiga after absorbing it from Shishinki. However, Tōga passed it on to Sesshōmaru in the form of Tenseiga in order to teach him the value of compassion. Originally, the Meidō Zangetsuha manifested as a massive black circle that would send an opponent's entire body and soul to the Netherworld, and left no trace behind. However, when Sesshōmaru first obtained the technique, the Meidō Zangetsuha took the form of a black crescent portal that only sent a part of a person into the Netherworld along with their soul; stronger opponents were thus unaffected by the incomplete Meidō. As Sesshōmaru's compassion grew, the Meidō Zangetsuha was strengthened until it became a perfect circle.
