It was first released in early access for PC on December 16, 2014 and released in full for PC on January 23rd, 2018. Early access for Xbox One was released on May 17th, 2016, with the full release for Xbox One and Playstation 4 releasing on December 6th, 2018. Subsequent console versions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S were released on May 14, 2021 to coincide with the release of Subnautica: Below Zero. Subnautica: Below Zero is an open world survival game developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment and a stand-alone expansion to Subnautica. It was first released in early access on January 30th, 2019 and released in full on May 14th, 2021.Taking place two years after Ryley Robinson's escape, players return to Planet 4546B as Robin Ayou, a rogue Xenoworx employee who crash-lands in the frozen wastes of Sector Zero. Subnautica 2 is an open world survival game currently being developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment and the first full sequel to the original Subnautica. Early Access for Subnautica 2 was announced on October 17th, 2024, with its release slated for 2025 on PC and Xbox. It is unlikely that Subnautica 2 will be available for Playstation ahead of its full release, as Playstation does not offer previews like Xbox or Early Access titles like PC.
