Oketra's History
The cat-headed Oketra was the Amonkhet god of stability, order, and protection. She was felled during the Hour of Devastation.
Oketra and her sibling deities looked over the plane of Amonkhet until the day of
Nicol Bolas's arrival. Despite their best efforts and fierce resistance, Oketra fell to the might of the Elder Dragon and was rewritten alongside the soul of the plane to serve Bolas's ambitions.
Over the next century, Oketra embraced her purpose as Amonkhet's god of Solidarity with her purpose of training the initiates of the plane to serve the God-Pharoah in the afterlife. She led many initiates through the first trial, that of Solidarity. At the beginning of the trial, Oketra would launch a massive arrow to the far side of the chamber. The floor of the monument would shift, creating a treacherous landscape, and all manner of enemies would swarm in—viziers, anointed mummies, horned beasts, and even angels. The enemies assaulted both the initiates and the obelisk they were tasked with protecting. The crop had to work together to defend their obelisk and retrieve Oketra’s arrow. They succeeded or failed together.
Oketra would first meet the Gatewatch soon before the coming of the God-Pharoah and would lead the planeswalkers through the trials. Her kindness and care for her subjects thoroughly impressed the awestruck
Gideon, who was used to the uncaring attitudes of the gods of his home plane.
When the Hour of Devastation finally arrived, Oketra would move with
Rhonas and
Kefnet to confront the arrival of their warped brother,
the Scorpion God. Soon discovering they were no match for their horrific sibling, who had been reshaped specifically to kill them, Oketra watched her uncorrupted brothers die one after the other. With her last remaining strength, Oketra aided the wounded of Naktamun with her healing magic before finally succumbing to the god poison coursing through her body.
Her inert form would later be taken by Bolas's forces to be converted into one of his God-Eternals.
