Nyx's History
Nyx went to university on Cybertron. At some point, a Predacon in her class nearly got her killed during a lab project. After graduating, Nyx joined the planet's Science Ministry, and eventually a position as the helmsman aboard the Maximal research vessel Axalon. While on a routine protoform delivery mission to H'nkshanaar-4, Nyx and the other members of Optimus Primal's skeleton crew received a transmission from Maximal leader Ironhide, who warned them that a group of Predacon separatists had stolen a valuable relic and fled aboard a transwarp-capable warship. When their lightly-armed vessel ambushed the Darksyde, Nyx's evasive maneuvers helped keep them in the fight for as long as possible; using Rhinox's transwarp lock, the Axalon followed the Predacons across time and space and re-emerged above an alien planet.
With their weapons damaged, Nyx made a last-ditch move by ramming Axalon into the Darksyde, but this unconventional tactic wound up pushing both of their ships into the planet's atmosphere. The two ships crash-landed on opposite ends of a lush valley and knocked their passengers into stasis lock; once the ship's artificial intelligence reactivated, dangerous levels of energon radiation prompted the ship to rebuild its occupants with protective beast modes based on the local lifeforms. When Nyx awoke, she enthused about her new wings to an unimpressed Rattrap. Nyx worked on repairing the Axalon's hull when Optimus Primal suggested she take a break and user her new flight capabilities to scout out the surrounding area. When Nyx went out exploring, she discovered that the planet's energon deposits made long-range communication impossible. The Predacon Terrorsaur was able to use this to his advantage by ambushing her; despite her best attempts to fight back, Terrorsaur managed to shoot her in the back, knock her unconscious, and take her back to the Darksyde.
Megatron oversaw Nyx's interrogation; despite his assurances that Tarantulas would kill her, Nyx refused to give in and spat that history would forget him just as it'd forgotten his namesake. Furious, Megatron turned her over to Tarantulas, and although Dinobot convinced the other Predacons to keep her alive, Tarantulas deduced that her defiance meant that the other Maximals had survived the crash—as the sole survivor would have no secrets to hide. Using his transformation lock lens, Tarantulas orchestrated a grotesque execution for their prisoner by keeping her trapped in robot mode until she succumbed to the planet's energon radiation and died; however, when Dinobot suffered a crisis of conscience and destroyed Tarantulas's invention, she quickly changed back into her beast mode and escaped while Dinobot kept his erstwhile comrades busy.
Badly damaged and unable to fly, Nyx realized she'd be unable to get back to the Maximal base in her injured beast mode and tried to chance it in robot mode despite the near-fatal levels of energon buildup she'd already sustained. When an organic creature attacked her, Nyx did her best to fight back before Dinobot rescued her. At that point, however, Nyx collapsed and Dinobot was forced to carry her back to the Axalon on his back.
Once she'd been repaired, Nyx visited Dinobot in an improvised brig. When she asked why Dinobot had turned on his comrades, Dinobot told her that the Predacons were meant to be honorable warriors, and the cruelty of his comrades left him disgusted. At that moment, the Predacons attacked their vessel; realizing that Optimus and his team couldn't face Megatron alone, Dinobot convinced Nyx to release him and the pair joined the battle. In the subsequent battle, Nyx faced off against Terrorsaur and triumphed by throwing him into the path of Megatron's weapon. When Primal sounded a retreat, however, the Axalon's force field left their new ally Dinobot stranded outside, where the Predacons promptly rushed and nearly killed him. At Nyx's urging, however, Primal used their shipboard weaponry to drive the Predacons into a retreat and save Dinobot's life.
ater, Nyx and the other members of the crew were playing cards when Cheetor heard a noise and went to investigate. After finding an incapacitated Cheetor, the other Maximals discovered that Blackarachnia, a newly-born Predacon, had invaded the Axalon and sabotaged the remaining stasis pods in orbit. Although Blackarachnia escaped, Optimus announced that the Maximals would take the initiative and go on the offensive.
Some time later, Optimus announced a plan to storm the Darksyde and seize the Golden Disk. Nyx and the other Maximals, including new recruit Razorbeast, used a refitted escape pod to fly to the crashed Darksyde and launch a full-scale bombing run. Maximals Nyx and Rattrap infiltrated the Predacon warship, but just after sabotaging the Darksyde's transwarp drive Nyx encountered Tarantulas; Maximals Strike Back, Part 2 thanks to a new taser upgrade she installed after her last run-in with the Predacons, she successfully incapacitated Tarantulas and successfully escaped. When she went to reunite with Rattrap, however, the other Maximal reported that stealing the Golden Disk had tripped a ship-wide lockdown and trapped him in Megatron's quarters; while she and Optimus attempted to free Rattrap, Megatron successfully captured all three of them behind a force field. However, Primal convinced the Predacon leader to let them go in exchange for handing the Golden Disk back over.
At some point afterwards, Nyx took part in a skirmish against the Predacons that ended with Cheetor getting injured. Nyx was aboard the Axalon when an enraged Optimus—under the influence of a behaviour-altering form of red energon—attacked the young Maximal as he blamed her for their current predicament. Eventually, however, Dinobot convinced Primal to take out his excess aggression by attacking Megatron, and a concerned Nyx watched him leave. Primal Rage When night fell and Primal didn't return, Nyx and most of the other Maximals set up a campfire to keep watch through the night. Cheetor tried passing the time by telling a scary story about the Defiance, and Nyx enthused at the edgy adventures they must've had.
Primal returned with dire news: an alien race known as the Vok, self-appointed guardians of this mysterious world, planned to wipe out both the Maximals and the Predacons. With no other recourse, the two sides declared a temporary truce and tried to devise a way to fight back against the enigmatic beings. Nyx worked with Skold, and although the two didn't originally get along, the pair found a way to work together to track unspace readings aboard their ship. When they presented their findings to Optimus, Nyx let Skold take the credit for their collaboration. Nyx took part in the final battle against the "Children of the Vok", and took out Jetstorm before Airazor divebombed the Maximal flier and took her out of the fight. After the Vok had been destroyed for good, their remaining servants agreed to a truce and left to live in the wild as their creators had intended, while Nyx and the other Maximals left aboard the repaired Axalon to search for Megatron, whom Rattrap had deliberately blasted into unspace.
