King Ghidorah's History
King Ghidorah is a massive three headed extraterrestrial dragon-like kaiju.
King Ghidorah was revived after a young Asian monk performed a suicide ritual in order to revive the monster from his long slumber on Earth. Upon awakening, King Ghidorah flew to combat Godzilla in Washington, D.C. In the ensuing battle, King Ghidorah was beaten when knocked down by Godzilla. Later, he briefly participated in a battle between Godzilla and Mechagodzilla. In the following three-way battle, Steven Woods fired Mechagodzilla's special weapon at both King Ghidorah and Godzilla, knocking out both monsters in the process. Although presumed dead, Ghidorah was later shown to be recuperating on Monster Island.
At some point, King Ghidorah was badly injured and then captured by the Cryogs. He was then transformed into Mecha-King Ghidorah.
In the Catacylsm continuity, King Ghidorah appeared locked in battle with Godzilla along with Mothra, Manda, and Anguirus. King Ghidorah bit Godzilla and shocked him through his bite, but Godzilla lifted Ghidorah by his head and slams him to the ground. Godzilla then blasted Ghidorah at point-blank range with his atomic breath and defeated him. It is unknown if King Ghidorah survived the encounter or not. Arata's grandfather later recalled that some members of his village pray to King Ghidorah as a deity that brings rain.
In Godzilla: Oblivion, King Ghidorah attacked and chased the humans visiting the alternate dimension in which he lived. Due to power problems, he was able to follow them through the inter-dimensional portal and began rampaging in their dimension. After emerging through the portal, King Ghidorah attacked the Eastern United States for two weeks, completely destroying the cities of New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. and resisting all attempts by the U.S. military, NATO, and the United Nations to stop him.
Godzilla was eventually brought through to the original dimension to fight King Ghidorah. The monsters battled in Washington D.C., after which King Ghidorah grabbed Godzilla and carried him over the ocean. The military detonated a nuclear bomb in the vicinity of both monsters, which appeared to kill King Ghidorah but left Godzilla unharmed.
King Ghidorah's carcass laid still at the bottom of the ocean, missing its middle head and with shredded wings and a gaping wound in its chest. A group of humans reached the monster's location and raised him up to the surface using a giant balloon. They then brought King Ghidorah's corpse to a facility and mechanically modified it as Mecha-King Ghidorah in order to fight Godzilla and draw him back into his own dimension.
In the continuity of Godzilla: Rivals, after Godzilla managed to trounce every monster they pit him against in the Xilia Arena, the Xilien leaders decided to unleash King Ghidorah, or Monster Zero as they called him, to defeat Earth's champion and build morale among the masses for the race's ongoing invasion of the planet. Once King Ghidorah destroyed Godzilla, the Xiliens planned to send him to Earth to crush the remaining human resistance and complete the invasion. The Xiliens used their electromagnetic waves to rouse Ghidorah from his slumber within Olympus Mons, after which he flew from the volcano's crater and into the arena. Ghidorah landed before his opponent, and the two titans exchanged roars before clashing. Godzilla grabbed Ghidorah's left neck, but his right head bit Godzilla on the shoulder and forced him to release his grip. Ghidorah then repeatedly swiped Godzilla in the face with the spikes at the end of one of his tails. He then knocked Godzilla to the ground and began stomping on his chest, until Hoshi crashed the P-1 X into him and knocked him off of Godzilla. Captain Daitan Matsushita armed Dr. Ogilvy Hu's Electro-Bomb to fry the Xiliens' communications, but Ghidorah absorbed the weapon's payload. Surging with blue electricity, King Ghidorah blasted Godzilla with his more powerful blue gravity beams when he tried to get back up, scorching him and leaving him motionless on the ground. Ghidorah then turned his attention to Hoshi and Matsushita, trying to blast them with his gravity beams. He then tried to catch them in his jaws, but missed again. Finally, he used his tails to trap the two in front of him, but was struck by Godzilla's tail just before he could kill them with his gravity beams. Godzilla, revitalized after absorbing the concentrated cosmic radiation bombarding Mars' surface, roared loudly at King Ghidorah. Ghidorah lashed out at his foe, biting into his throat with his middle head and slamming him into the wall of the arena. Godzilla grabbed and threw King Ghidorah, who proceeded to take flight and charge his gravity beams. Godzilla used his increased radiation reserves to fire an extremely powerful red blast of atomic breath that struck Ghidorah in the air and almost instantly vaporized him along with much of Xilia, effectively ending the Xiliens' invasion.
