Why 300,000yrs of existence but only 5000yrs of history?

Created by mtrindadc, 2 mo 17 d ago.

How is that possible? While modern HUMANS (Homo sapiens) have existed for around 300,000 years, written records that we consider "history" only go back about 5,000 years.

That's why the period before written records (5000yrs) is called prehistory and is studied through archaeology, anthropology, and other disciplines that examine artifacts, fossils, and other evidence.

The focus behind this topic is to try to give an answer as to why there is no history before 5000 years ago.

The answer's quite simple. Humans weren't really fully developed and weren't fully homo sapiens instead of Homo heidelbergensis. And even when we were, we hadn't thought to make concrete records like we do now. Attempts probably were made but they got better over time.
The theory of evolution doesn't say that one day an animal just gives birth to an entirely new species, its a gradual process.

Probably because the main goal of humans like 10,000 years ago was simply to survive against animals like saber tooth tigers. Cave drawings are the closest thing we have to human history prior to 5,000 years
