Djeru's History

Djeru was an initiate and leader of the Tah crop on Amonkhet. Since the Hour of Devastation, he has become an influential leader among the survivors.

Djeru used to be best friends with Samut and Nakht. After the death of Nakht outside the Hekma, he became a devout follower of the Gods and estranged from Samut.

As leader of the Tah Crop, Djeru took his crop through the trials. Djeru survived Bontu's Trial of Ambition, despite the bumbling actions of Gideon Jura. Samut appealed to Hazoret to stop Djeru from taking the last Trial. For this, she and the Gatewatch were forced by the Gods to fight the Trial of Zeal against Djeru and the other worthy initiates. In a surprise move Samut managed to join forces with Djeru, convincing him to pray for her life to Hazoret. In exchange, she prevented Djeru's death with the spear of Hazoret, though Djeru didn't appreciate the gesture. This was just moments before the Revelation.

Djeru joined forces with Samut when the attacks began. Together with Hapatra, they witnessed the death of Rhonas, Kefnet, and Oketra. Afterwards, they were commanded by Hazoret to protect the survivors, to evacuate the city and to hide among the desert sands. Delegating that job to Hapatra, they returned to the damaged city and were able to save Hazoret from her fight with the Scorpion God.

Warned of the incoming invasion, the survivors of Amonkhet went into hiding, hoping to evade Phyrexian notice, but it turned out to be futile. Those who had survived Nicol Bolas's ravaging of their plane, however, were tough and resourceful, and as soon as they gathered their bearings, they struck back with a vicious plan that relied heavily on Hazoret, their protector god, with Djeru as her loyal lieutenant.

To their surprise, when they arrived at Naktamun, they found the Scarab God and Locust God already there, engaged with the invaders. With the insect gods' undead hordes distracting the Phyrexians, Hazoret used her flaming spear to ignite the glistening oil within the Phyrexians' veins. As they writhed in agony, Djeru led a crop of elite fighters to dismember them, making sure they were out of the picture for good. In the aftermath, the inscrutable insect gods departed for the deep desert without a word.
