Dabura's History

Background

Dabura is taken under Babidi's mind control in Age 474, and sends one of his underlings to investigate the Earth, as that is where Buu's egg is. The underling finds that there are no warriors on Earth with high power levels. Dabura was given the task of recruiting people into Babidi's organization.

World Tournament Saga

Dabura is first seen when Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo and Krillin are led to Babidi's spaceship by Kibito and Shin to aid them in preventing Majin Buu's awakening. After klling Yamu and Spopovich and gathering the energy they stole from Gohan, Babidi and Dabura become aware of the Dragon Team hiding in the mountains nearby. Dabura notes that there's seven of them and, even if they can't use Shin or Kibito's energy, three of the others have great strength. As it takes a massive amount of energy to awaken Majin Buu, Babidi decides to use theirs and is glad that the Majin will be revived sooner than they thought. Dabura is ordered to kill all but the strongest three, and lure the remainder inside the ship, who will be desperate to avenge their fallen comrades. The evil wizard also specifically orders Dabura to spare the Supreme Kai, as he personally wishes to finish him off for murdering his father, which the demon understands and agrees with. Babidi and Pui Pui then retreat inside of the ship.

Following his order, Dabura quickly charges toward the group, despite them hiding their Ki. With a single blast, he kills Kibito, still grinning while he does so. In the anime only, Goku and Vegeta charge Dabura in an attempt to stop him but they underestimate him and do not even bother to transform into Super Saiyans, and the demon easily fends off their attacks. He then quickly leaps in the air and spits on Piccolo and Krillin, quickly turning them into stone, with Shin explaining the only way they can turn back to normal is if Dabura dies. Dabura then retreats back into Babidi's spaceship, telling the brave Saiyans to wander into their domain if they dare.

Dabura joins Babidi in a monitoring room and watches as the Z Fighters and Shin enter the spaceship, being greeted by Pui Pui at level one. Babidi injects the Energy-Suction Device into the Sealed Ball containing Majin Buu. Babidi, however, ends up getting a shock, as the single injection has given them almost half the energy they need to revive Majin Buu. He starts to wonder if maybe he was a bit too hasty in eliminating Spopovich and Yamu, but Dabura reassures him that the energy of the fools they lured into the ship will finish the job and Majin Buu will be revived by the end of the day. Babidi, reassured, flies back up to see if Pui Pui had finished yet, but is taken aback because the fighting hasn't even started yet.

After winning a game of Rock, Scissors 'N' Paper with Goku and Gohan, Vegeta gets to fight first and challenges Pui Pui. Dabura believes that Vegeta has no idea what he is in for. He is quickly proven wrong, as it becomes obvious that Pui Pui is no match for Vegeta, surprising both Dabura and Babidi. Babidi asks Dabura where Pui Pui would fight at his best, and the demon king replies that it would be his homeworld, Planet Zoon. Knowing Pui Pui needs an edge, uses his Paparapapa magic to transport them to Pui Pui's home world of Zoon, which has a gravity 10x higher than that of Earth. However, Vegeta is unaffected by this and easily kills Pui Pui, allowing them to proceed to level two. Shocked, Babidi asks Dabura why there are such strong warriors on Earth. Dabura says that when they investigated the planet 300 years ago, no one this strong ever existed, which worries Babidi. Dabura reassuringly states that they still have three more levels to pass before they reach them, and even if they succeed, they'll still have to deal with him.

Next, Dabura asks Babidi who he wants fighting on Level Two and Babidi tells him he'll use Yakon. Shocked, Dabura says it may be too soon to use him. Babidi says he must be cautious now, since it seems they can't underestimate these Earthlings, who easily killed Pui Pui. Dabura understands and says he is only worried that he'll never get to have any fun if they send Yakon out, but Babidi lectures him that awakening Majin Buu from his long sleep is much more important than fun. Dabura apologizes and sends a low-ranking soldier to fetch Yakon.

At level two, Yakon faces off against Goku and nearly manages to slash the Saiyan with his claws. Babidi believes Goku is afraid and plans to frighten him even more. The wizard praises Yakon, and tells him to kill everyone except Shin and take their energy. To end things quickly, Babidi sends them to Yakon's homeworld, the Planet of Darkness. Dabura is amused, but doubts Yakon requires such an advantage to defeat them, however, Babidi says he doesn??t want the ship to take a great shock during the fight and accidentally have Majin Buu be revived at less than full power, which the demon king agrees with.

Goku, despite some surprise at the new environment, easily beats Yakon around. Goku explains that he can feel and sense out Yakon's movements without even needing to see. Nevertheless, Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan, lighting up the surrounding area. Babidi wonders what happened, saying his appearance is different from before, but Dabura thinks he's just glowing. Babidi tells a nearby henchman to go get him the strongest Energy Meter they have. The device says Goku has a reading of 3,000 Kilis, much to wizard's disbelief. Dabura says a race with a 3,000 kili reading should not exist and, in the anime, says that 300 Kilis is enough to destroy a planet. Babidi considers that the device is malfunctioning, but if it's right, Yakon doesn't stand a chance, as his energy is only 800 kili.

Yakon proceeds to suck in Goku's energy, making him revert to his base form. However, Goku sees right through the technique, and allows Yakon to suck in another batch of light energy. Babidi yells at Yakon that he's stupid to be sucking up the energy, instead of inflicting damage so that the energy can be absorbed by Majin Buu. Goku then suddenly increases his energy and Yakon sucks it all up, until he gets too large and explodes. This allows the group to proceed to Level Three. In disbelief, Babidi can't believe Yakon exploded, but Dabura says he was just a fool to eat more light energy than he could handle. Babidi disagrees, because of the way that Yakon swelled up near the end. A nervous Babidi admits that they are far stronger than he expected. Dabura volunteers to handle Level Three personally and gather the energy need for Majin Buu's revival. Babidi worries about Dabura losing and asks if he has a plan. Dabura reminds him that as the king of the Demon Realm, no one can stand up to his power.

In the anime, prior to fighting, Dabura enters a meditation room in order to focus his energy ready for battle. In the manga however he does no such thing.

While they wait for the next fighter, Goku asks Gohan if he has trained enough, since his turn is next. Vegeta says that Gohan has gotten weaker in these times of peace and that he and Goku are stronger than him now. Although, Vegeta believes if he were to lose his temper like with Cell, then Gohan could release his full power. Suddenly, the door begins to open and Dabura enters the room. Dabura praises them on defeating Yakon and making it to Level Three, but doubts they can defeat him. Vegeta tauntingly says Babidi must be getting desperate to send him out so soon. Dabura simply chuckles and tells them all to attack, but Gohan says that he'll be the one to defeat Dabura and demands that Babidi transport them somewhere else. Dabura is outraged, but Babidi reminds him they can't risk damaging their ship from their fight. The demon king replies that he wishes to fight on a world similar to Earth, as he doesn't want any unfair advantages. They are transported to an unknown world with a mountainous range and engage in battle.

Though initially it seems that Gohan and Dabura are even, Goku corrects himself and states that Dabura might be stronger than he once thought, with his usage of magic and several tricks, such as the Afterimage Strike and several unique attacks which managed to surprise and damage Gohan during the battle.

Eventually, in frustration for not beating Gohan yet, Dabura materializes his Darkness Sword and attempts to strike the half-Saiyan. However, Gohan manages to catch the sword by his hands and snap it in half, making Dabura even more frustrated. During his battle with Gohan, Dabura takes notice of Vegeta's poor temperament and his one-track mind for settling things with Goku, which gives Dabura an idea. Dabura then retreats from the fight with Gohan in order to inform Babidi of Vegeta's evil in his heart. Babidi quickly takes advantage of that information and possesses Vegeta, when this was actually what Vegeta wanted all along, so he would gain a greater power and finally defeat Goku.

With Vegeta refusing to kill Shin and Gohan (stating that they are of no interest to him) and now battling Goku, Dabura stands with Babidi to fight against Shin and Gohan. Before they can start though, they are all shocked as the energy released from Vegeta and Goku's battle has already been enough to release Majin Buu, as both fighters were fighting at Super Saiyan 2, the form thought to be the pinnacle of Super Saiyan states at the time.

Dabura and Babidi are then confronted by Gohan and Shin, now preparing to stop Buu's resurrection once and for all. When Gohan fires multiple Electric Kamehameha at the Sealed Ball, Dabura grabs his master from the blast's range and jumps away, saving his master's life.

Majin Buu Saga

Originally thought to be dead, after several minutes of waiting, Buu finally emerges in a puff of large smoke. After Majin Buu has emerged, Dabura is surprised, and less than pleased with Buu, as it seems the fat being is nothing more than a useless imbecile, due to his childish personality and appearance. Majin Buu overhears this remark and attacks Dabura, quickly gouging him in the eyes, and then kicking him into a mountain, leaving him broken, pleasing Babidi. Dabura does manage to recover somewhat though and throws a magical spear through Majin Buu, much to the frustration of Babidi.

He tries to convince Babidi that Majin Buu is uncontrollable and should be contained again, but Babidi refuses to comply, and then tells him that he was nothing more than a pawn in the bigger plan, and like all pawns, regardless of its loyalty or efficiency, should be tossed away when not needed anymore, much to Dabura's surprise and hurt. Majin Buu then retaliates against Dabura under Babidi's orders, turning him into a large cookie and eating him. This in turn reverses what he did to Piccolo and Krillin, restoring them to normal.

While in King Yemma's office in the afterlife, Goku is told of how Dabura came in not too long ago. A flashback shows Dabura held by ogres as King Yemma chooses to punish him by sending him to Heaven because, being a demon, Dabura would have enjoyed Hell. This is the final mention of Dabura in the manga, but he makes several more appearances in anime filler where the punishment backfires as Dabura enjoys Heaven anyway, but he at least repents for his previous evil ways. The M is still on Dabura's forehead while in King Yemma's office but, just like Vegeta, he loses it after King Yemma judged him.

In the anime filler, Dabura is seen content in Heaven, repenting of his previous sins and looking back on them with remorse. He accompanies Bulma, Chi-Chi and Videl in their search for Gohan in the Other World. He is consumed with joy and love, which unnerves everybody near him.

Dabura is last seen in Heaven with a wreath of flowers around his head picking flowers in a bouquet wandering around Heaven. After Chi-Chi, Bulma, and Videl are resurrected, Dabura lamented on how could not join them but is content with everything. Ironically enough, despite having become a pure soul himself in these anime filler episodes, he is not shown revived with all the innocent souls who were killed by Buu and the other villains. Vegeta specified that the evil ones be kept dead when making the wish, which could have left Dabura dead (Vegeta suggests that the reason he made this specification was so that villains such as Babidi and Dabura would not return).

Dragon Ball Super

When Goku and Krillin were sent into a forest to retrieve a special herb for Master Roshi, an illusion of Dabura and many other villains from the Z-Fighters' past show up to challenge the duo. Even though he did not die from it, having remembered getting turned to stone by him years prior, Dabura's illusion was one of four that terrified Krillin the most, with the others being Tambourine, Frieza, and Super Buu.
