Conoon Chodala's History

Conoon Chodala was born in the Urshilaku tribe of the Vvardenfell Ashlanders in the 2nd Era. He became the Ashkhan (chief) of the tribe at a young age. He was a respected warrior who took part in battles against invaders and raids into dangerous areas like Red Mountain. In 2E 582, Chodala came into possession of the powerful staff Sunna'rah. Created by god Sotha Sil, the staff could steal divine powers. Chodala used it to slowly drain the powers of Tribunal god Vivec. As Vivec weakened, Chodala grew more powerful. He began to believe the prophecy that he was the Nerevarine promised to restore the Dunmer people.Chodala had his warriors, the Red Exiles, infiltrate a cult ritual to steal the staff. He convinced the Exiles' leader he was the Nerevarine, gaining their loyalty.

However, the power corrupted Chodala and made him arrogant and violent.

At a tribal pilgrimage, Chodala declared himself the Nerevarine to the Wise Woman Dovrosi. But his sister Seryn and an adventurer called the Vestige questioned his claim. In the Cavern of the Incarnate, spirits of past failed prophecies spoke against Chodala. When Dovrosi rejected Chodala, he ordered the Red Exiles to kill everyone. The Vestige defeated them. Chodala fled to the shrine of Kaushtarari, believing his staff made him invincible. But the Vestige weakened the staff's power and slayed Chodala.

In 3E 427, the true Nerevarine visited the cavern and spoke with Chodala's spirit. Chodala recounted his story as a warning. He remains in the cavern among the failed Incarnates as a lesson for future prophecies. So in the end, Chodala's arrogance and corruption led to his downfall, cementing his place as one of Morrowind's failed prophecies.
